Solano County Transit

Solano County Transit (SolTrans) provides local public transportation, SolanoExpress fixed routes, complementary paratransit, and subsidized Lyft programs in south Solano County, California.

In support of California’s Innovative Clean Transit regulation, SolTrans began incorporating electric buses into their fleet, which now consists of 44% non-diesel vehicles. To reduce costs, ensure consistent vehicle uptime, and manage the charging and fuel needs of their diverse fleet, SolTrans turned to bp pulse.

The power of Omega

Critical alerts, critical cost savings

To optimize charging costs, SolTrans relies on omega, bp pulse’s charge management system, to automate charging sessions to prioritize low-cost energy rates. omega shares live vehicle states of charge and power draw levels, providing critical fleet alerts to SolTrans in real time.

omega also:

  • Guarantees vehicle uptime
  • Increases awareness of energy usage in other operations
  • Dynamically responds to performance issues

Fleet diversification

Customizing for a polyfuel fleet

To address the challenge of SolTrans’ multiple vehicle types, our software operates in conjunction with the fueling of SolTrans buses using compressed natural gas (CNG). When the CNG compressors turn on, our software reduces or suspends the EV charging stations to ensure that the 15-minute power-up will not increase electricity demand costs. bp pulse is the first company to coordinate total fuel costs by slowing/suspending charging stations to accommodate multiple vehicle types.

The bp pulse team helped us understand how to collectively control our energy costs while still ensuring all of our electric and CNG buses are fueled and ready to serve our community. [Their] technology is helping us transition to zero-emissions by 2032.
