What is Time of Use (ToU) pricing?

We’re introducing a smarter method of pricing to help you take advantage of lower EV charging rates where available. This means you pay a different price to charge up your EV depending on the time of day. At bp pulse, this is split into peak, off-peak, and super off-peak periods of the day.

Time of Use (ToU) pricing means you pay a different price when you charge up your EV depending on the time of day. This means you could save money on your charging costs by shifting your charging times to off-peak or super off-peak hours of the day vs peak rates.

bp pulse is committed to providing drivers with a great EV charging experience and ensuring charging is as convenient as possible. We believe ToU pricing can help us achieve this goal by enabling us to offer you lower prices when the cost to supply electricity is lower. Encouraging more customers to charge during off-peak hours has the added bonus of helping reduce congestion during busier periods, helping you get back on the road faster. 

We’re currently trialing ToU pricing at a number of our EV charging sites, with plans to roll this out across other locations through 2025. Download our app for the most up to date pricing rates per site. 

At bp pulse, our ToU prices are split into peak, off-peak, and super off-peak periods of the day. These periods can vary by location – so always check the bp pulse app for exact pricing per site.

The price you pay is determined by the time that your charging occurs at. This means that the pricing rate for your session may vary if this crosses into more than one pricing period. At sites with ToU pricing, you can also view the different pricing periods on the charger screen before you start your session.

Yes – you can review a breakdown of the pricing on your receipt. When using the bp pulse app, this is emailed to you automatically. Alternatively, you can call customer support to request a receipt on 833-277-8573.
