Pioneer Transportation has served New York City schoolchildren for more than 50 years, and safely transports more than 40,000 students each day.

Pioneer Transportation has been a long-time advocate for zero-emission school transportation. To begin their electrification journey in the most cost-effective way possible, Pioneer chose bp pulse to comprehensively manage implementation and ongoing operations of their pilot project.

Scalability from the start

To kick off their electrification journey, Pioneer partnered with bp pulse to provide comprehensive project management. We kept Pioneer’s future electrification plans in mind throughout the site design and infrastructure installation process to ensure that future expansion of their new EV fleet would be simple and cost-effective. Pioneer also leveraged bp pulse’s partnership with UES to begin the diesel bus conversion process.

UES will repower five of Pioneer’s Class C school buses with an electric drivetrain to make them zero-emission vehicles.

InstallATION strategy

Setting up the infrastructure

The vehicle point-of-entry and subsequent ideal location for Pioneer’s charging infrastructure was at the opposite end of their lot. In lieu of a lengthy construction project on the entire lot, which would have disrupted operations, bp pulse worked with Pioneer’s utility to establish a new line of service at the closer end of the lot. Now, Pioneer has a dedicated EV line of service in the best possible location for their fleet operations, courtesy of our design, engineering, and charge management expertise.
Our partnership with bp pulse is making the transition to electric fleets easier and more affordable than we ever could have imagined.
